In the same spirit of the of the theme of not because they are easy, but because they are hard, ROCKETS Magazine and The Maryland Delaware Rocketry Association, MDRA, are proud to announce our support of the 40th Anniversary Moon launch of Steve Eves’ 1:10 scale Saturn V.
This is a massive project by any standard. The rocket will weigh over 1,600 pounds, it will stand over 36 feet tall and it
will be powered by a massive array of nine motors, eight 13,000ns N-Class motors and a 77,000ns P-Class motor. The
estimated altitude of this single stage effort will be between 3,000 and 4,000 feet and the project will be recovered at apogee.
As with the original moon program, nothing of this scale has ever been
attempted and like the moon program it will take the best that rocketry has to
offer. The Saturn V will be a world record attempt for the largest amateur rocket to ever
be launched. The launch date is scheduled for the spring of 2009 to commemorate the
quintessential event that has shaped many of our lives and demonstrated what is possible
when best minds and efforts are brought together for a common cause.
The financial commitment to this project pales in comparison to that of the
original moon program but it is huge in rocketeer numbers. ROCKETS Magazine is offering
individuals, clubs and businesses a chance to be part of this world record event. Initially,
the donations for the motors will offered to support the effort. They will be designed
specifically for this project by a commercial motor manufacturer. The offer is as follows:
you donate for a motor(s), including the propellant. We will engrave the details of
the project and your name on the motor casing, promoting your contribution to making history.
After the flight you will be the proud owner of the motor casing and all of its internal
components as a trophy or flyable motor for your future project.
Contact us at: editor [at] libertylaunchsystems [dot] com for further details.
You can be a part of this historic commemoration of an historic event - we are gratefully accepting donations of any amount and
we will be presenting other fund raising activities in the near future. Check out
the progress of the project at www.rocketsmagazine.com often. Don’t miss the opportunity
to say I helped make Steve Eves’ Saturn V fly.
